Casting Call for Glee!

I wish I could sing. I really, really do. Not only would I be able to be the next Beyonce’ (or better
), but I’d have a shot at auditioning for Fox’s newest hit TV show, “Glee”. Do you know how utterly cool that would be? I love that show, and to have the chance to become a CAST MEMBER blows my mind!
Well, for Tennesseans, Mississippians, and Arkansas residents, your dream may become a reality. FOX13 is holding an open casting call on April 3rd at Harrell Theater. I know that there will be a lot of excited individuals who want to be the next “Gleek”, but you have to be patient, as you cannot line up to audition no earlier than 7 am on April 3rd. Auditions should start no later than 8 am.
Who can enter? Anyone can enter, as long as they are between the ages of 16 and 26 as of April 19, 2010 will valid ID. What should you bring? When auditioning, you should have the completed audition form, a non-returnable headshot, valid ID, and your personality, talent, and ambition to win! You can find a complete list of rules at myfoxmemphis.com. You will be required to sing an a cappella song of your choosing for about 30 seconds so come prepared.
This is very exciting! As someone who has auditioned in the past for various dance performances, I know how nerve wrecking auditions can be. The greatest advice that I can give is to go in there, be yourself, and LIVE. Leave your heart on the audition room floor, and as long as you felt that you gave it your all, you will be fine. Keep in mind that there are at least three people who did not show up at the audition just because they knew that you would be there.
So whether you’re auditioning, or know someone who wants to, pass this info along and encourage them to do their best!
How would you feel if you were a “Glee” cast member? Do you think that you would audition or know someone who would want to?

Resident Poll: If You Were a Shoe What Would You Be?

Hey Dogwood Creek! I know this is a silly question, but I’m in that type of mood.
If you look at it, a lot of everyday items can express your personality or lifestyle if you really think about it and get creative.
For example, if I were a shoe, I’d be a stiletto.
I’m cute, sassy, and ready for a night on the town. I have a good number of inches on me, and I can be slightly dangerous if used incorrectly. See?
What about you? If you were a shoe, what type would you be? Please provide explanations!
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater: A Truly Uplifting Experience

I love dance. It is my life, it is my passion. My body lives through rhythm, my world revolves around song. And it shows in my steps. Being that I have this immense love for the wonderful art form of dance, there should be no question as to why I love the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater so very, very much.
No, I have not been privileged enough to become a part of the company, but in all honesty, just being able to attend a show, see the dances, feel the rhythm, and live the beauty in the moves is good enough. If you attend the performance at the Orpheum Theater this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Memphis, I’m positive that you will feel the same way.
You don’t have to be a dancer to enjoy Alvin Ailey. You just have to be a lover of nice things. The only requirements, have an open heart, and open mind.
That’s it.
Tickets range from $20-$57. There will also be Master’s Classes taught on Saturday for $20. The first class at 10 a.m. will be teaching Horton Method at the University of Memphis Dance Studio. The next will be at 11 a.m. and they will be teaching “Revelation” workshop at First Baptist Broad at 2835 Broad Ave. For this, the cost is $20 or FREE with ticket stub. If there are any dancers out there, I HIGHLY recommend attending these Master’s classes. This is an experience unlike any other, and for $20, that’s basically a steal. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Go out and see for yourself.
Have you ever seen an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance?
Storm Drain Covers a Hot Commodity??

Well, it appears that they are for local thieves in the area. Now, copper, I can understand; that’s nothing new. But cast iron? Come on, folks. I guess local thieves are really hurting for the cash. It turns out that thieves are picking up quick cash all over Memphis and Shelby County.
Robert Knecht of Memphis Public Works says they replace about 350 grates and manhole covers a year with a price tag of about $50,000. On average, he says about 60 percent are replaced because they were missing.
The latest thefts happened in the Brunswick Farms subdivision. Four within a block were swiped last week.
Okay, well here’s where I get confused. Granted, many thieves do their dirty work in the middle of the night, but storm drain covers aren’t little. Or light for that matter. You’re telling me that NO ONE has caught the criminals in the act? What kind of 6 foot, muscle bound human do you have to be to get away with stealing one of those things?!
Now the city is looking to weld down the storm drain covers in an attempt to keep them in the proper place. But criminals are resourceful. If they want something, they’re going to find a way to get it, welded down or not. This is a shame, a big shame. It’s also dangerous. What about the subdivisions and neighborhoods that have small children? Little Timmy could just be chasing after his ball and end up in a situation that he doesn’t want to be in.
What do you think about the situation?

Hey Dogwood Creek! Can you figure this one out?
At the local nursery school, I was chatting to my daughter’s friends and noticed a number of things. Jessica has mousey coloured hair and the girl with black hair was wearing a green dress. Lucy is not blonde and Lauren does not have brown hair, Chloe was wearing a blue dress. The blonde girl was not wearing red and Lauren was not wearing green. I can’t remember which girl was wearing a yellow dress. Can you determine the colours of the girl’s dresses and their hair?
Post your answers!
Good luck!
We’ll announce who was right next week!
Resident Poll: What’s Your Favorite Syndicated Show?

Hey Dogwood Creek! There’s no doubting that there are tons of great shows on television today. There’s also no disagreeing that there are just as many not so great shows. For me, I feel as if I’m an “old skool” kind of girl, and I love watching the shows that I grew up with. These would include classics such as “A Different World”, “The Fresh-Prince of Bel-Air” and a little more recent “Friends”. (I still laugh until I cry at EVERYTHING that Chandler does!).
What about you? What are your favorite “old-skool” or syndicated shows?
